Day One of Alt.Net

Saturday, October 06, 2007 1:33 AM

So I just got back to the room after an evening spent with a lot of really interesting people here in Austin. I have been blown away not only by the content of the discussions but by the shear number of people all committed to persuing better ways of developing.

Breifly, one thing that caught me off guard was the amount of people from Microsoft. Guthrie, Hanselman, Dierking and I am sure there were others but it made me feel that MSFT is actually listening. Also, I really appriciated Hanselman's relentless pursuit of what do we mean when we say 'It sucks.' What does it mean to you dear reader?

Looking back over my notes, I seemed to latch onto the maintainability aspect. Its nice that I can whiz bang out a website in three clicks, but what about when I have to go back and change it? That is the pain that I am experiencing please help me there.

To the attendees that came: Thank you, I am learning more than I can take in and it feels good! :)

Here's what you need to do:

Find Donald Belcham (C# MVP from Edmonton, aka Igloo Coder) and ask him:

"Hey Donald, I hear you're the foremost expert on how to extract something from a bull. By the way, D'Arcy says hi."

and for that, I will send you down a case of Ketchup flavored chips because I KNOW how horrible it must be to have your company neglect your snacking needs in such a horrible way.
